Luxury watch brand Richard Mille and bike manufacturer Colnago have collaborated to create a special edition watch, modelled by Tadej Pogačar, which is set to be his most pricey timepiece yet.
Known for his expensive watches, often wearing a $350k Richard Mille whilst racing the new RM 64-01 Tourbillon Colnago takes luxury even further with a likely price tag of near or over $1 million.
As is customary, the price is not readily publicised, but similar manual winding tourbillon Richard Milles sell for anywhere between $500,000 and $2 million, or even more in the case of some special models.

What’s more, there will be only 50 of the special edition watch, only adding the exclusivity and demand, and therefore the price.
However, unlike his other Richard Mille watches, it seems unlikely that Pogačar will wear this one on race days. BikeRadar report that Colnago told them that he won’t be wearing the new piece at the Tour de France over “personal safety concerns” related to wearing such an expensive item in public.

The watch
The watch itself is a collaboration between Richard Mille and Colnago, aiming to “bring some of the most recognisable codes of the Italian brand into the world of high watchmaking”, a joint press release read.
Various design aspects of the watch are inspired by elements of Colnago bikes.

“The skeletonised movement recalls the structure of a racing frame, with bridges and components arranged according to a visual logic that evokes tubes, geometries and drivetrain,” the brands said.
“The star-shaped sections of the bridges are inspired by the renowned Gilco tubes, one of the most recognisable design signatures in Colnago’s history; the micro-lugs pay tribute to the C Series, the iconic line of bicycles handmade in Cambiago; while the white, blue and gold colour palette echoes the language of the brand’s most exclusive creations from the recent past.”

Colnago’s iconic ace of clubs symbol is also on the crown of the watch, the most obvious nod to the collaboration. The watch uses a manual-winding tourbillon movement for its mechanism, and is made of materials including blue quartz, red gold and titanium.
Pogacar models the watch in Richard Mille’s promotional material and product page, which the brands say “strengthens the link between the project and competition at the highest level, where every detail can become decisive and where innovation, instinct and precision coexist in the same athletic gesture.”
Though the face of this new watch, as possibly Colnago’s most famous ambassador, several other cyclists and sportsmen wear Richard Mille watches, including Mathieu van der Poel and Mark Cavendish.
